Avenue of the Giants 2007

Page history last edited by SLOjim 2 yrs ago

Stories....... fact or fiction from the AVE.........

1500 miles on the road and over 24 hrs behind the wheel to run a 10K, with a pulled back muscle and taking decongestant for a bad cold …….

A fellow camper after the race asked me why?

Actually on the way up I was asking myself the same question…….but when we arrived at the campground in the beautiful redwoods I remembered why I wanted to return for a 3rd year in a row. Ever since my wife and I drove the Avenue over 30 years ago it is on the top of our list of favorite camping spots..... so to be able to run in a race through the redwoods, nothing will stop me.  Our trip up and back was uneventful, unlike other fellow Boomers’ journey ….. just a long boring drive.

The best part of the trip was meeting up with fellow Boomers, hup (& his running buddies), Econo (& Little Econo), Sherie, Karl, Labduck, Mrs. Labduck, Ilene and Fast Forward (&brother Bob), Tammy and John. It was fun sitting around the campfire, eating the pasta dinner at the Veterans Hall, meeting up before the race, and dipping our feet in the cold Eel River after the race hearing all their stories of their races and their trips to get to the Avenue of the Giants.
